Linslade Surprise Major
When we make a joke about how badly the ringing had gone, we would often say that it was a good course of “Linslade Surprise Major”. Imagine our surprise then, when Simon came to a practice with several printed copies of a new method which had yet to be named. “Let’s call is Linslade Surprise!”, “It’ll be fun to have our own method.”, “I think I could learn this”.
Everybody came back the next week having done their homework. The plain course has a row of queens in it, so it sounds pretty to ring. We soon decided to get it officially named by ringing a quarter peal.
Linslade Surprise Major is very similar to Painswick, but with places in 3-4 to replace double dodges. The result looks a bit like a splice between Yorkshire and Superlative, both of which are rung in the tower regularly.
On 24th of July, 2016, we rang 1280 changes of Linslade Surprise Major, and it has been officially added to the Central Council’s database of methods. Our achievement is on BellBoard.
